2/4(sat) HS Boys in Hokkaido--Day 2

KIUA Sports's picture

The Flames showed up today in fine fashion. They played Hokkai H.S., the reigning champion of the tournament for the past 5 years (and 6 out of the last 7) in their first game of the day. Hokkai got off to a good start, but the Flames battled back in an exciting game. Hokkai was able to come away with the win, while the Flames fell just 5 points short. Coach King said the Flames played Hokkai the closest of any team thus far in the tournament.
In their final game, and the last of 9 games in a long day, the Flames came through with a win, handily beating Keihoku H.S. 75-26.

The Flames will play in the quarterfinals Sunday morning at 8am Japan time (4pm Saturday afternoon Denver time (US MST). The game should be available here at this link or search for "Snow Festival Classics" on YouTube. Coach King is proud of his team. He commented that the boys were tired (after such a long day) but they've played well. "Their sportsmanship is winning over the crowd." were the words of a pleased coach.

2/3(Fri) HS Boys in Hokkaido--Day 1

KIUA Sports's picture

The HS boys' basketball team flew out of Kansai Airport as the sun rose this morning. They landed in chilly Hokkaido and made their way to Hokkaido International School. Playing the home team this afternoon proved to be quite a challenge. The Huskies shot well from behind the 3-point line and other places, while the Flames had some trouble getting their rhythm. The Huskies came out on top 52-46. Tomorrow, the Flames play 2 Japanese high school teams in the afternoon, Hokkai at 1:30pm and then their last pool game against Keihoku at 6:30pm. The Hokkaido school is streaming the games online. You should be able to watch here at game time.
