KIUA Sports's picture

The Open Gym program finished on Monday, June 29. A big "thank-you!" to all the faculty and assistants who helped make the volleyball, basketball and futsal activity fun for the students who participated. An average of 25-35 students enjoyed these activities after school each Monday and Friday. With the push toward the end of the semester and finals, we wish the students the best as they focus on their papers, projects and studies!

Tournament results from 5/15-16

KIUA Sports's picture

Two Flames teams participated in WJAA tournaments on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16.

The MS Boys' volleyball team played at Canadian Academy and finished in second place, losing in the final to a very strong Nagoya team.

The HS Boys' baseball team was at Nagoya. The two pool games did not go as hoped with the Flames coming up on the short end in both, losing to Sons of the Light 6-1 and then SOIS 9-0. Both opposing teams had strong pitching that stymied the KIUA bats. On Saturday, the team finished with a win, beating NIS 6-1 to take 5th place.

5-8,9 Weekend Wrap-up

KIUA Sports's picture

All three teams were in action last weekend. The softball team participated in the WJAA HS Girls' tournament at Marist, the HS Boys' baseball team competed at CA and the MS Boys' volleyball team traveled to NIS.

Girls' Softball
The girls enjoyed a fun weekend in Kobe playing at the Marist Brothers International School. This was the 3rd time for the Flames to be in the tournament and the first time the tournament was held on the new turf field at Marist. No more mud and streams of water running through the infield! The Lord blessed us with sunny skies and a very warm day on Friday. The Flames went up against two strong teams and were held scoreless by both CA and SOIS Black--their top team. Both games ended after 5 innings under the mercy rule. Saturday, the Flames competed against the SOIS White, the second team, for 5th place. It was a fun and exciting game. The Flames started off quickly, garnering 3 runs off hitting and baserunning in the first inning. The girls held SOIS to no runs until the 5th inning, even completing a triple play (gaining 3 outs in one play) that started off with a great catch of a line drive by pitcher Finola. In the 5th, SOIS tied the game up 3-3 and then proceeded to add 3 more runs over the next two innings while keeping the Flames from scoring again.

HS Boys Baseball
The boys traveled to CA to play two games. The Flames were in fine form, beating the Marist Bulldogs 20-3 in the first game and then downing the SOIS Sabers 5-2 in the second game.

MS Boys Volleyball
The MS team went to Nagoya International School and played both A and B matches. The Dolphins turned out to be a stronger team than anticipated and they beat the Flames in both matches. The KIUA team looks forward to having another chance at the tournament when everyone should be back and the team should be at full strength.
