KIU Academy
Dear parents and guardians of KIU Academy,
We would like to thank you for your invaluable support and cooperation with KIU Academy. Especially in 2020, due to the new coronavirus global epidemic, we have asked children to continue studying under unusual circumstances such as with adjusted schedules, online home study and staggered school attendance. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we cannot thank you enough for your ongoing understanding and cooperation while working with our school. In addition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your generous financial support for the relocation of the school building planned for next year.
The purpose of this notification is to inform all parents and guardians that on September 7, 2020 the school’s board of directors made the decision to revise the tuition and facilities fees for 2021. Regarding tuition fees: although the national consumption tax rate has been raised twice; first from 5% to 8% (2014); then from 8% to 10% (2019), we have not changed our tuition fees since 2007. We have endeavored to minimize school related costs in order to have as many families as possible attend our school. We have maintained the same level of costs so that families can see our school as an option and continue their children’s education with us. At the same time, in view of the recent economic situation surrounding our school, it has been decided that in order to continue to provide our current educational services, we must raise tuition at least 5% in response to the consumption tax hikes.
Regarding facility costs: although we are planning to move to a new school building next year, in order to maintain our present school buildings and equipment (that is about 20 years old) and replace various pieces of equipment, a raise of our facilities fee is also required.
Tuition = 934,500 円
Facilities fee = 60,000 円
* We will inform you about the details of the delivery method (installment payment, etc.) later
Since our school is an international school which offers its own curricula, we are not eligible to receive government subsidies as other private schools that follow official Japanese education policies. We rely on tuition fees for almost all of our operating costs. Therefore, we request your understanding of the necessary revision of our school tuition and facilities fee. We also apologize for the fact that as a result of the time required for discussions by the board of directors on this matter, the advanced timing of this notice was shortened to half a year before the scheduled payment date for next year's tuition fees.
On a different but related note, our school has been able to respond to families in need of financial support in various ways such as scholarships, monthly payment plans, and temporary postponement of payments. We will continue to provide as much support as possible, so please contact us if necessary. (In addition, regardless of nationality, 10th to 12th graders are eligible for the yearly national school enrollment support system. *With no refund obligation; maximum of about 400,000 yen depending on the status of the previous year’s annual income.)
Finally, KIU Academy was able to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its founding last year. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the parents and guardians who have chosen to send their children to our school and for their ongoing support. In addition to the campus relocation next year, all of our faculty and staff will do our utmost to further improve the quality of education and the facility environment. Once again, we appreciate your understanding.

KIU Academy
Dear parents/guardians and students,
The athletic department would like to welcome you back the fall semester. We are preparing for a fall sports season that will include high school volleyball for both boys and girls, middle school baseball for the boys, and middle school volleyball for the girls.
We understand that there might be concerns about COVID-19 and participating in sports. We are doing everything that we can to minimize the risks of contracting the virus while participating in sports. You will be required to wear a mask while riding the bus to and from practice. Our league, the WJAA, will be meeting during the last week of August to finalize protocols to allow for a fun and safe season.
Practice will begin August 24 for high school volleyball. Practices will be held on Monday (24), Wednesday (26), and Friday 28). We will practice from 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-16:00 at Ide gymnasium. Middle school girls are welcome to join in the morning practice sessions. The school bus will pick students up at Shintanabe station at 8:40 and the school at 8:45. It will be very warm in the gym so please drink plenty of water before coming to practice and bring water and sports drinks to practice. It would be good to bring extra clothes to change into as you will be very sweaty.
Regular practices will begin with school. Middle school baseball and volleyball will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on September 1. High school volleyball will practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning on September 2. The high school girls will be coached by Mr. Blocksom, the high school boys will be coached by Mr. King, and we are in the process of finding coaches for the MS teams.
More information regarding practices and games can be found on the sports calendar.
