Winter 2020-2021 - START of Term Information

Dear Parents,

We hope that you have enjoyed your Christmas and New-Year celebrations.

KIU Academy plans on resuming classes starting January 5, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 situation we continue to use the same school schedule as for the fall term. The only changes will be to the elementary after school activities. For more details, please see the letter sent with Elementary Report Cards and the link below:

WINTER TERM School Schedule

Please note that the smaller basketball court is no longer available starting January 2021. That area is being converted into a parking lot for Osaka Siren (the company across the street). We ask parents to make sure not to park their cars in that area. The current parking lot in front of “A building” will still be available for KIUA parents to park cars.

Regarding precautionary measures due to COVID-19, we plan on continuing to follow the recommendations issued by the Japanese government (Ministry of Education). Please review and be familiar with our health policies:

KIUA COVID-19 Health and Safety Policies - (ENG)
KIUアカデミー新型コロナウイルス感染症対策

We ask that you continue to monitor your child’s health condition and fill the Health Check-up Sheet for December-January. Students should bring the completed form every day starting from the first day of school this term (January 5, 2021).

In order to stay informed, we strongly encourage you to check our communication channels frequently (KIU Academy News website ( http://parents.kyotoiu.ac.jp ), your FAMILY PORTAL (Renweb) account and the email address you provided the school with).

We look forward to resuming classes and assisting parents in educating their children. May God bless you and your families this winter.

Sincerely,

Haroldo Simoes

KIU Academy Principal

Fall 2020 - End of Term Information

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we resumed classes on campus this fall. Due to the COVID-19 situation we had to make adjustments to the school schedule and other aspects of our school, but we believe that our students adapted well to the “new normal.”

One of the changes that we implemented was the move to a more direct and “digital” form of communication with parents. You may have noticed that, since the winter term of the 2019 school year, we stopped printing new issues of the Torch Newsletter. Instead, we adopted a “paperless” approach in which announcements are posted on the KIU Academy News website ( http://parents.kyotoiu.ac.jp ) and on the top page of the FAMILY PORTAL grading website (Also known as ParentsWeb / Renweb). When appropriate, we have also started sending information directly to parents’ email addresses.

In order to stay informed, we strongly encourage you to check our communication channels frequently (KIU Academy News website, your FAMILY PORTAL (Renweb) account and the email address you provided the school with).

Regarding precautionary measures due to COVID-19, we plan on continuing to follow the recommendations issued by the Japanese government (Ministry of Education). We currently have no plans to change the approach we used during the fall term. Updates for the winter term will be posted online and emailed to parents as they become available.

We ask that you continue to monitor your child’s health condition and fill the Health Check-up Sheet for December-January. Students should bring the completed form every day starting from the first day of school next term (January 5, 2021).

Regarding school hours, the only change we plan to make will be in the Elementary dismissal time. More details about this are included in the letter to Elementary parents. Otherwise, we plan on using the same school schedule that was used during the fall term. Information about the school schedule will also be included in the updates posted online.

Please also be reminded that the smaller basketball court will no longer be available starting January 2021. That area will be converted into a parking lot for Osaka Siren (the company across the street). We ask parents to make sure not to park their cars in that area. The current parking lot in front of “A building” will still be available for KIUA parents to park cars. Details are included in the enclosed "KIUA campus relocation update” letter.

We wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a happy new year.

Sincerely,

Haroldo Simoes

KIU Academy Principal

Update regarding COVID-19

Dear Parents,

As you know from recent news reports, COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Japan.

It is important that our school community continues to take all possible care to prevent infections.

Our school received information from the Ministry of Education today that indicates they will be revising the school hygiene management manual in the near future.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Education has instructed us to do the following:

  1. Maintain good communication with parents and stress the importance of monitoring children's symptoms at home. Please continue to take your child's temperature daily, fill the Health Check Sheet and have your child bring it to school every day.
  2. Monitor the local situation in order to quickly grasp the infection status in the area, and share information on the infection status in the area with other schools.
  3. Be careful to maintain the privacy of infected persons.
  4. Inform parents and students about the importance of avoiding discrimination, prejudice, slander, etc. against infected persons and their families. If a climate of blaming the infection spreads, it may lead to delays in consultations at the proper medical facilities or result in people hiding the infection, which may lead to the spread of the infection in the area.

Please help us make sure that KIUA students understand the importance of these points.

As for recent cases at preschools, at present very few KIUA students have siblings attending these schools and none of them have had close contact with an infected person.

We are dealing with these matters on a case-by-case basis, and appreciate the cooperation of families.

We ask all parents to contact the school immediately if your child or anyone your child is in contact with is diagnosed with COVID-19.

Thank you,

H. Simoes

KIU Academy Principal

Regarding COVID-19 cases in other schools

Dear Parents,

Today we were informed that COVID-19 cases have been identified in preschools located near our school.

Because of this, these preschools will be temporarily closed.

KIU Academy students may also have been exposed to the virus if they have siblings who attend these preschools which are temporarily closing.

If a KIUA student has a sibling attending one of these preschools, we would like to request that you keep that student at home tomorrow for monitoring.

We will pursue more information with the preschools in question and send another update tomorrow.

Thank you for your cooperation,

KIU Academy Office
