We would like to inform you of a change to the school closure policy. On p. 26 of the new Parent-Student Handbook it states, “Classes will be cancelled if there is a severe weather warning (keihoh) for the YAMASHIRO CHUBU region of Kyoto prefecture at 7:00 AM.” Because warnings are now issued by city rather than region, the new policy is: “Classes will be cancelled if there is a severe weather warning (keihoh) for KYOTANABE-SHI at 7:00 AM.”

If students leave home before 7:00 AM, it is up to the parents to decide if they should come to school that day. Students who come to school during a school closure will either go home by themselves (if able to do so) or remain at school until an arrangement with a parent/guardian is made. Students should not come to school if there is a severe weather warning in their residence’s area.

Upcoming event: Open House

Dear KIUA parents and guardians,

Please remember that on Saturday, April 21, we will have our annual Open House from 1:00 until about 4:00 PM. Parents are invited to attend school on that day, follow an abbreviation of their children’s schedule, meet their children’s teachers, and learn about the classes their children will be taking. This will be followed by a seminar for parents on how to use Engrade (KIUA’s online grading website) and Reading A-Z (the new elementary online reading program.) We ask that you not bring your children because we will not be able to care for them. We hope to see many of you on Saturday!
