Updates (Sept. 10, 2021)

Dear KIUA parents and guardians,

We have finished the first full week of the fall term, and we would like to thank you for your cooperation as we do our best to keep the KIU Academy school community healthy.

Since school began on September 1, none of our KIUA students or staff have tested positive for COVID-19. However, we appreciate that students and staff who have had possible COVID symptoms, a family member with such symptoms, or have had close contact with someone who may have been infected have stayed home from school in order to prevent possible contagion. Absence of these students as well as those whose parents are concerned about their children’s ability to attend school safely is excused (they will be marked present for “School Attendance”, and our teachers are working to support these students as they complete their school work from home. Please note that high school students who are absent still need to fulfil all the academic requirements in order to earn class credits for this term.

As the state of emergency in Kyoto Prefecture continues through the end of September, we ask for your continuing understanding and support as we continue to follow our state of emergency schedule with the delayed school start time. Calendar events like elementary Sports Day, Fall Camp and the secondary School Festival have been postponed until further notice. We will continue having quiet lunch time and no official playtime before or after school. Middle and High school sports club practices will be held on a limited basis on campus (participation is voluntary and requires parental permission).

We also appreciate your faithful attention to your child’s health and filling in of the KIUA Health Check-up Sheet.

Thank you so much for your cooperation,

KIU Academy
